Sunday’s Photowalk

Quick note about Sunday! Just a reminder that we are doing a group photowalk/field trip to the Camera Show & Swap in Burnaby (beside Lougheed town Centre) the plan thus far is to meet up in front of the Edge to leave for Terminal Station at 8:00 AM. From here we will take the sky-train to Lougheed Mall (Millennium Line to Commercial Station, Swap Trains to The Millennium Line WATERFRONT VIA COLUMBIA) and walk across the parking lot to The Cameron Recreation Centre for the Early bird entry to the Camera Show n’ Swap at about 9:00 AM. Will hang about here till people are done looking at musty cameras and other gear. Perhaps grab some breakfast really whatever people are into at that point. There is a lot to see and take photos of in New Westminster and well all along the Skytrain route. We will see how we are feeling and go from there.

What ever we get up to we will plan to be back here at the Edge for a quick clean-up at 4:00pm.

April Clean-Up!

An official clean up day has been scheduled for Sunday the 17th of April at 4:00pm. So, a reminder that all personal items need to be placed in Tupperware bins with your name and unit number clearly displayed.

The cleanup will involve boxing unclaimed personal items for removal, and organizing the remaining equipment. We will also wash developing trays, dust, wipe walls, and mop the floor. Total cleanup shouldn’t take more than an hour or so if we can get a bunch of us helping. The photo user group is also reminded that personal storage of any type – outside of your own paper/chemistry in your Tupperware container – is not permitted. This includes personal photography equipment including lighting equipment, personal enlargers, matte board, and backdrop paper/stands.All unclaimed items will be removed on this clean up day.

February Photo Workshop

Hey everyone!

Thanks to everyone that came out to the meeting last night! Minutes will be out later this week. Lots of things were talked out and one thing that was decided was the workshop/photowalk for this weekend. This Sunday, Feb.20.2011, we will be holding a workshop complete with photowalk starting at Noon. We will be holding the workshop at my studio (25 Gore Ave) with the photowalk happening after around Gastown.

Breaking film is about shooting film and using cameras in a way that was never intended. This includes things like cross processing, flipping film over & shooting though it backwards (redscale), developing film in coffee, polaroids, plastic cameras & the list goes on and on. We will also go through the basics of shooting manual cameras and light meters.

Bring out your film camera, toy camera or polaroid camera & have some fun with us. Don’t have one? That’s OK! We will have some to lend for the day. Film will be supplied at $10 per roll (includes developing so that is really a steal), or you can bring your own.

At our next workshop (date TBD) we’ll meet in the darkroom and start to print out the images we’re taking on our photowalks.

For Sunday we will most likely end up at a Pub or coffee shop for socializing after. Send me an RVSP email or comment here so we can ensure that we have a enough cameras/film etc. Spread it about the building and we will see you all on Sunday!

Clean-up

Beginning this month we will continue the clean-up with the removal of all items from the darkroom that have not been claimed or put in a personally labeled plastic bin.

We Have A Flickr Pool

Hey all you flickr users out there! We now have have our very own Group Pool!

What is a flickr group pool? - A group pool is is a central location in which we can share photos that we have created with each other and the rest of the building.

What should I add to the Group Pool? - Add anything that you want to share with us as a group – Add all those fantastic photos that we take during our group photowalks. – Add photos that you have taken in/around The Edge – Add what ever you like! Just keep it work/family friendly!

How do I add a photo to this Group Pool thingy? – To add photos to the group pool you will need a flickr account. Accounts are free and easy to set up. If you have questions about signing up check out the flickr Help section – If you have questions about adding your photo to the group flickr Help can assist you there as well.

What will the photos be used for? - Photos added to the pool may (with permission of course) be used for the rotating photos at the top of the home page, or in blog posts about all of our group events, or posters for our upcoming events. There will be a stream of photos from the pool shared on our User Group webpage. We would like to have an art showing of all our groups fantastic photos that we can pull out of the pool! The possibility’s are truly endless!

We are a User Group with an emphasis on the USER, and flickr pools are just one more exciting way to share with & enhance our user group. So get out there, start shooting, join us in the pool!! The waters warm!

Introduction to Photography

Last night we held an our November Workshop ‘An Introduction to Photography’. We had about 4 people come out, which given there was a drop in night at the Ceramics Studio, & Core had an important meeting that same night, I think it was a good showing!

So thanks to everyone that came out and a special thanks to Angela K. that helped us film the evening. I promise I really didn’t mean to task you with a camera that you had never seen before the instant you walked in the door Thank you so much for the help!
